Film adaptations crossing borders: The reception of Spanish literature in the United States through film

A growing body of research has been devoted to examining the parallels between translation and film adaptation. Given these role in intercultural exchange, this paper aims explore adaptation as another possible means i.e. how literature crosses borders through adaptations. To do so, it will draw upon case Spanish literary works (i.e., from nation Spain) that have present United States both adaptations translations. This be done by analyzing a corpus films imported into translations years 1895 2018. Theoretical tools Polysystem theory used examine characteristics films, their corresponding works, combinations arising importation. Seven main patterns governing relationship revealed briefly illustrated.
